HAPPY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!! -Hermione

I know it's a day late. But Happy Christmas anyway. ;) What did you guys get???? What's your favorite gift so far? Speak up now, don't be shy. ;)

This is a panorama shot of my living room, with the new something I got this year. I won't say yet, that would spoil the surprise. Unless you already know.

My Christmas pajamas

My letter to Santa, from Voldemort. :)

Our Christmas ornament countdown

A family tradition of ours is, once we're all asleep, Mom and Dad will string Christmas lights through the hallway. It's a fun tradition: I like it a lot.

Now on to presents!!!! ;) My second favorite gift is:

:D With a bunch of...

BONUS FEATURES!!!!! Ahhhhhhh!!!!!

I also got tshirts, B&BW stuff, books (duh), movies such as Captain America and DH Part 1, two pairs of boots, the newest 39 Clues book Trust No One, and a pretty journal. There was more, smaller stuff, but I forget the rest.

But now --- finally --- for the best Christmas present I got of all......

An iPod touch 5th generation!!!! In absolutely gorgeous BLUE!!!!!!

This is more of a Christmas present to myself (I paid for it with Christmas money, babysitting money, and my NaNoWriMo prize money (courtesy of Dad). I hope you know what I mean by that)

But I love it sooooo much. It's beautiful.

But for all you friends of mine out there who have Apple products, this means we can FACETIME!!!! Yay!!!!! I no longer feel like I'm on the other side of the planet from you guys. Next time I see you, I'll get your number and/or email.

Oh, like the Marvel t-shirt, too? My brother got that for me. <3

This is at my grandpa's house. I call him the King of Christmas. Haha(:

 Ben's Christmas present for Dad

And now I present to you....Siri. :) She's soooo funny!

I'm a Geek

This is SO random, what with the world ending tomorrow and all. ;)

But I'm going to take a moment to geek out for a sec. If you haven't seen Thor and/or The Avengers (you should!) then move along. :)

So, if I haven't told you already, my favorite character from that franchise is Loki. ♥ I know he's the villain, I know, I know. I don't like him because the actor is ..... hot or anything (I don't even like using that word...blech) I like Loki because I am determined he will turn good at some point.

There. I said it.

I'm not a part of his army. I'm not obsessed with villains. I'm rooting for him to turn good, that's all, and he's my favorite because it's interesting to watch him to see foreshadowings of that fact. (And there are foreshadowings.) One thing I like about Tom Hiddleston, the guy who plays Loki, is that he is a very good actor. You can see these foreshadowings just by something simple, like a hesitation in his eyes. (No, I am not crazy. :3 It's totally true. Watch him in The Avengers, closely.)

I'm so excited for Thor 2: Dark World, and The Avengers 2. All I know about Thor 2: Dark World is that Loki isn't the main bad guy --- it's some Dark Elf named Malekith. I'm excited to see if Loki has a change of heart in either of the movies. :D

So who feels the same way? Who doesn't feel the same way? What are your thoughts?

(I don't just like Loki, by the way. Cap is awesome.♥)

P.S. Here's a video I found on YouTube. I thought it was sweet, but I would've picked another song. It's made for lovers, not brothers (ooh, that rhymed!) and it's a bit awkward at times. But I still like the video. :)

Christmas Spirit

Wow. I haven't posted in a while. Sorry, guys. :-)

Problem is, I just couldn't think of anything to post about. It's been bad. Blogger's block. (Hey, that's actually not as stupid as I thought it would be.)

*hem hem*

Anyway.

Christmas is finally getting CLOSER.......YAY!!!! Yet, for some stupid reason, I can't seem to get into the Christmas spirit. Now, I know that Christmas is all about Jesus, and the wonderful Gift God gave us. But the Christmas spirit helps a lot --- you know, Christmas cheer and all.

I've tried everything --- egg nog, Christmas music, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, reading the Christmas story in the Bible, staring at all our decorations, wearing my special Christmas socks, even going to the mall to watch Santa freak people out and eat in the cafe under the Christmas lights.

Still, I'm getting nothing. Is something wrong with me? Am I the only one like this?

*sighs*

I guess it's a part of getting older. Which totally stinks.

But anyway, as a part of my attempt to start feeling Christmas-y, I'm going to do a Christmas quiz thing! Yay! It's kind of like a Top 10, but I'm doing Top 5. Because I'm lazy. (Not in any particular order)

Movie Quote

I'm changing Wednesday's words of wisdom to Monday's Movie/Television Quote. Because, frankly, movie/television quotes are more fun, and Monday's Movie Quotes sounds better than Wednesday's Movie Quotes. :D So, I'll be posting this on Monday from now on. Even though it's Wednesday now. You get the point, right? :)

Hehehe. :) And, a random fun fact about LOTR:

Tag!

So, I got tagged by two people. xD Because they're both awesome, I'm going to answer both their sets of questions! I love questions!

No idea what that means.

Okay, so, rules.

1. You must post 11 random things about yourself
2. You must also answer the 11 questions the awarder that given you and make up 11 for the awardees to answer.
3. Tag 11 fellow bloggers
4. No tagging back
5. The blogs you tag must have under 200 followers

Okay. 11 random facts. Jeez, this is hard....

#1 - The sound (or feeling) of someone squeezing a wet rag really hard is the WORST EVER. It makes my tongue curl up. Even worse than nails on a chalkboard.

#2 - I don't like turnips, but I like Munster cheese. ;)

#3 - Whenever I read, I prefer to take a pen and "wag" it. (Weird, right?) I can't really explain it, but all you have to know is I do something strange with a pen while I read.

#4 - Whenever I talk, I "see" my conversation come up in my head in the font of a book I've been reading lately. That's why I'm really picky about fonts --- if it's one I don't like, it'll be stuck in my head and I'll have to see it until I change fonts. >-< Really weird.

#5 - I have trouble talking to people who take money, you know, like at cash registers in stores. I always stutter over my words, give them the wrong cash amount, or just stare at them in fright and look like a total idiot.

#6 - I don't like shopping. The only thing I like shopping for is toys, tops, or accessories. Dresses, jeans, and shoes? Ugh. Rather not. I hate trying on a whole bunch of stuff :P

#7 - I really don't like baseball. It's boring. I went to a Pirate game once ... oy. I'd rather watch football.

#8 - I don't like cooking regular meals, just desserts.

#9 - I hate loading the dishes and handwashing the dishes, but I don't mind unloading the dishwasher.

#10 - One of my favorite ways to spend time with someone is to watch a movie with them.

#11 - I'd rather be comfortable than look amazing. (Hence, why I don't wear high heels. And, of course, there's always the off chance that you could get attacked by aliens from another dimension and have to run for your life.)

Whew. Now for the questions. I get double :) Grace's questions first!

~

1. What is your favorite author? (Or one of them)

Dude. Uhhh....I'll say three: J.K.Rowling, Bryan Davis, and Rick Riordan. But I have TONS!!!

2. What book are you currently reading? (If any)

Well, I was rereading Maze of Bones and Beyond the Grave (both 39 Clues) and I'm kind of in book limbo right now. I think I'm going to start reading Merlin: The Lost Years by T.A. Barron. Maybe.

3. What did you do yesterday?

Relaxed, dreaded the start of the week. ;)

4. What was the last movie you saw in theaters?

Brave, I think.

5. Introduce us to your siblings.  (Even the crazy ones)

Ben is eleven. He's tall for his age and kind of gangly with freckles and black hair. He's EXTREMELY smart, has memorized the Periodic Table and is at high school chemistry level. Ethan is nine (turning ten in seven days) and is a genius with robots and electronics. He has light brown hair and is really skinny. He's constantly pushing buttons and taking things apart and putting things back together. Jeb is six (turning seven in November) and he's really good at art and counting. He has counted to 3100 before and he claims to be able to count to a million (I taught him that ;).

6. What is your favorite board game?

I dunno....I like Clue, The Game of Life, Scattergories, Monopoly, and CandyLand.

7. Do you play an instrument?  If so, which one?

Nope. :( I'd like to play piano, though.

8. Tea or coffee?

Coffee is yummy....I don't normally like tea, but there is one type --- Heaven Sent --- that is really good. All other teas are kind of gross.

9. Do you celebrate Halloween?  If so, what are you dressings up as (if at all) this year?

Yep! I'll be Mary Poppins!! I know some people who aren't going because they think they're too old....well, I'm gonna go till I can't think of a costume anymore. ;)

10. If you had to write a book, what genre would it fall under?

FANTASY

11. What types of schools have you attended?  (i.e. Public school, co-op (sp?), Private school, etc.)

Homeschool, Private school, and currently co-op

~

Now Maddie's questions!

1. Mustaches or bowties?

Idk.....I like cartoon mustaches (but not real ones), and bowties are cute on little kids. And (maybe) cute guys. But that's it.

2. If you could choose between a British, Scottish, or Irish accent, which would you choose?

Ahem .... British, of course, darling.

3. Favorite snack food.

Eee...Cheez-Its. Goldfish. Tortilla chips and salsa.

4. What's your favorite season?

I like them all, for different reasons. I like winter b/c of Christmas and sledding, fall because of Halloween and a change of temperature, spring because of Easter and flowers and warm air after winter (finally - slush is gone!), and summer because there's no school. And you can swim, and it's a lot more relaxing. So, if I had to say (and it's a really hard choice!) I would say summer.

5. If you could be a celebrity for a day, who would you choose?

Ummm....I don't know. I like my life. I wouldn't really want to trade it for any one else's. Of course, I'd love to be in a movie, but it would still be my life.....

6. Would you rather go to a little cupcake shop or cute coffee house?

Bleargh....coffee house? These are hard questions.....

7. What would your perfect breakfast be?

Orange juice, hot cocoa, chocolate chip pancakes, my mom's chocolate chip pumpkin bread, and her palacinkies (a pancake-like recipe from Germany)

8. Would you rather be able to do a perfect split or be able to walk on your hands?

Split.

9. Do you prefer swimming in the summer or sledding in the winter?

Dang.....I like both equally. <3

10. Kittens or puppies?

Puppies.

11. Bold or italic?

Italic.

~

Okay. Well, everyone I would've tagged has already been tagged .... but if you want to be tagged again, or if you haven't been tagged and I sorta forgot about you (sorry in advance!), here are my questions.

1. Stars or moon?

2. Would you rather be President of the United States or an FBI agent? (hehehe)

3. Would you rather spend a day with your favorite actor, actress, musician, celebrity, etc. or spend a day on the set of a movie? (Preferably something like the Avengers)

4. What is the biggest thing you want for Christmas?

5. What is is your most recent (or ongoing) obsession of the moment?

6. List the first five words that come to mind when you see the word hijacker.

7. Would you rather go on a missions trip to Mexico (:P), Russia, or Japan?

8. Where do you want to spend your honeymoon?

9. If you got a million dollars right now, what would you do with it?

10. If you could trade places temporarily with a character from a movie or a book, who would it be?

11. List four pet peeves.

~

Feel free to tag yourself! If you do, comment and tell me so I can go take a looksie! ;) Remember to take the button picture thing that makes no sense if you do tag yourself. :P

Words of Wisdom: Noah's Ark

Hi guys! I'm taking a teensy break from my normal picture posting and doing a Biblical history lesson thing. My brothers are studying the time of the Great Flood and I found several points to be very, very interesting. So, here ya go. :P If you don't wanna listen to me blab on about Noah, fast forward to the end. There's a really awesome thing that happened. :)

Genesis 5 lists the family line, from Adam to Noah. Noah was born after 9 generations through Adam's third son, Seth. When Noah was born, his father, Lamech, said: "He will comfort us in the labor and painful toil of our hands caused by the ground the Lord has cursed." (Genesis 5:29)  Huh.

In Genesis 6:1-4, it says:

When human beings began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of humans were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. Then the Lord said, “My Spirit will not contend with[a] humans forever, for they are mortal; their days will be a hundred and twenty years.”

The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.

This I thought was interesting. This section makes it sound like angels came down to earth and married mortal women, doesn't it? And it says that they had children - Nephilim. I don't quite know what to make of this, and as far as I know this is the only mention of Nephilim and marriage like this in the Bible, so .... I don't really know what to say about this. I just thought it was interesting. :)

But anyway. Back to the story. When Noah was somewhere over 500 years old (500 years old!) he had three sons: Ham, Shem, and Japheth (Genesis 5:32), and around this time, God told him what He was going to do.

Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight and was full of violence. God saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted their ways. (Genesis 6:11 and 12)

The people on the earth at this time were really sinful. They had no regard for God's commands. God chose Noah and his family because they were, out of all the people on earth, were the only righteous people. The only righteous people! God was pleased with Noah, so He came down and talked to him:

So God said to Noah, “I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth. (Genesis 6:13)

But since our God is a merciful God (and a smart God), he said he would spare Noah and his family, for they alone were faithful. Then, He gave Noah instructions for a massive boat that he would build that would withstand the upcoming torrent.

So make yourself an ark of cypress wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out. This is how you are to build it: The ark is to be three hundred cubits long, fifty cubits wide and thirty cubits high. Make a roof for it, leaving below the roof an opening one cubit high all around. Put a door in the side of the ark and make lower, middle and upper decks. (Genesis 6:14-16)

A cubit is roughly the size from your elbow to your fingertips. To say all this last part in English, the ark was over three stories high and its top deck area was roughly the size of 20 basketball courts. This ark was HUGE! I mean, after all, it had to fit Noah's family, and two animals of every kind in it (Genesis 6:19-21). Every kind! From the smallest snail or butterfly to the largest dinosaur. Actually, one of the largest dinosaurs known, the Ultrasaurus, is estimated to have weighed 55 tons, with a height of 52 feet and a length of 82 feet. The ark had to accomodate two of those, and two of every other creature! Yikes!

Predictably, this would take a long time to build. Even nowadays, with all our technical equipment, that would probably take a lifetime.

For Noah, it took him about a HUNDRED YEARS to build the ark, beginning when he was 500. A hundred years! Imagine that! Here he is, out in the desert, building a boat when no big body of water is nearby. The people of that day and age had never seen rain - their water, presumably, came up from springs in the ground. They laughed at him and teased him - for a hundred years! That's enough pressure to make any ordinary person snap in two, but Noah held firm. No wonder God was pleased with him!

And Noah did everything just as God commanded him. (Genesis 6:22)

So. Fast forward a hundred years - Noah is now 600 years old (wow!) and God comes to him. We don't know if God had communicated with Noah during the 100 years it took to build the ark. Imagine ... the last you heard from God was a hundred years ago, when he told you to build a boat in the middle of the desert, and you had to endure ridicule and gossip for that hundred years. Any normal person would start second-guessing God's judgment, right? We don't know if Noah did second-guess, all we know is that he persevered through it.

The Lord then said to Noah, “Go into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in this generation. (Genesis 7:1)

Seven days from now I will send rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights, and I will wipe from the face of the earth every living creature I have made. (Genesis 7:4)

Imagine how traumatic this might be for God. I know it's hard to think of God as anything more than a king on a throne, but he has feelings and emotions just like us. We are made in God's image (Genesis 1:27). That means that everything we feel - joy, excitement, sadness, anger - God feels, too. So, for God, this would be very saddening, I would think. It's like making this wonderful creation, a book, painting, or anything, and having to erase or destroy it. Or, "wipe from the face of the earth". Major bummer.

And Noah did all that the Lord commanded him. (Genesis 7:5) Good old obedient Noah.

In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, on the seventeenth day of the second month—on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened.  And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights. (Genesis 7:11 and 12)

Pairs of all creatures that have the breath of life in them came to Noah and entered the ark.  The animals going in were male and female of every living thing, as God had commanded Noah. Then the Lord shut him in. (Genesis 7:15 and 16)

Two cool things I have to point out. It says that all creatures with the breath of life came to Noah. I think that means that only land animals and animals of the air came to him, right? Because underwater creatures don't have the breath of life. And plus, this is the great flood -- I would think that most of them would survive.

Secondly, notice how in the last sentence it says: And the Lord shut him in. I take that to mean that God, personally, closed the door to the ark. That would have been cool to see.

Well, you know what happens next. Noah, his family, and his animal friends float for forty days and forty nights. Then the rain stops. But the water doesn't go down  for a hundred and fifty more days (Gen. 7:24). The rain only rained for a little bit of time, but they were on the ark for a while! Listen to this:

Now the springs of the deep and the floodgates of the heavens had been closed, and the rain had stopped falling from the sky.  The water receded steadily from the earth. At the end of the hundred and fifty days the water had gone down, and on the seventeenth day of the seventh month the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat. The waters continued to recede until the tenth month, and on the first day of the tenth month the tops of the mountains became visible. (Gen. 8:4-6)

The ark came to rest on the the mountains of Ararat after the 40 days and 40 nights of raining and the 150 more days of the water receding. But Noah can't get out yet. For three more months the waters continued to recede, until the tops of the mountains were visible. So, Noah has spent roughly 280 days in the ark, so far.

After forty more days of waiting, Noah sent out a raven (Gen. 8:6-7) but it kept flying around, not finding anywhere to land. Then Noah sent out a dove, but it couldn't find any place to land either and it returned. After waiting seven more days Noah sent the dove out again, and when it came back, it had an olive branch in its beak (Gen. 8:10-12).

By the first day of the first month of Noah’s six hundred and first year, the water had dried up from the earth. Noah then removed the covering from the ark and saw that the surface of the ground was dry. By the twenty-seventh day of the second month the earth was completely dry. (Gen. 8:13-14)

Noah spent over a year holed up inside that ark. Gosh!

Then, Noah exits, with his family and animals, and God, using a rainbow, makes a covenant with them not to flood the Earth in a great flood ever again (Gen. 9: 8-16).

Well, Noah began repopulating the earth, and he had many sons. His first three sons (Ham, Shem, and Japheth) split up and spread across the globe. Jesus comes through the line of Shem, and we, based on where we live and where Japheth settled, come through Japheth's line.

(If you skipped to the end, here's where you start reading ;)

Fast forward thousands and thousands of years.

In 2006 satellites picked up a strange "anomaly" on the mountains of Ararat.

Many people believe that this is the Ark, preserved by ice for thousands of years. I'm pretty sure it is! That would be so cool ... but look how BIG it is! It took Noah a hundred years to build that! And it's so huge that satellites in outer space can pick it up!

Well, this is probably the longest post I've ever done. :)

Halloween

Like the new background? I'm prepping for Halloween. :) Cutest Blog on the Block has TONS of awesome backgrounds for Halloween and others. (If you are going for Halloween, I recommend Wisteria Webs, Practically Magic, and Wicked Awesome. I think I have Lovely Omen, but I forget.)

While I was in the Blogger templates, I totally changed the fonts and some colors. I do that periodically. xD

So. Yeah. What are you guys being for Halloween? I've already told practically everyone what I want to be, but I'll list it again:

  • Mary Poppins
  • Pirate
  • Black Cat
  • Gypsy
I dunno. I'll see if I can do a poll up in the corner. ;) Just for fun. Even though there are only, like, two readers and active commenters on my blog :D (And I love them dearly!!!! <3)

But, I'm still on Halloween. It's my second favorite holiday ..... because, I mean, who doesn't like to go around randomly and get candy dressed up as anything you want to be dressed up as? In the dark? And it's all spooky? Awesome!

Picmonkey.com, the AWESOME photo editing website, has added Halloween effects. Which are sooo much better than Picnik's last year. Or two years ago. I forget.

I was freaking out!!!! I will definitely have photoshoots before Halloween. Definitely.

Oh, and two more (random) things:

#1 - have you guys voted for the Adventures in Odyssey people? You know, the people who actually followed through with their audition (unlike me) and got chosen to be one of the 12 finalists? You can vote from October 1-8. Annaliese is my favorite. :)

#2 - it's Dakota Ryan's birthday on the 13th. xD I'm such a nerd.

Mexico Pics!!!!!

Finally.

So, this is the penthouse. It's a pool and dining area on the top of the building. I felt like Batman. xD

Then we get back down to practice after our amazing meal. The dude in red is Maurice Sklar, the violinist.

The Klezmeranians (weird name huh? ;) practicing their music. The girl on the left has an AMAZING voice! She sang Hava Nagila and one other song.

Kol Simcha (another weird name) practicing their piece. By the way, this whole thing is the run through we did for Jonathan Bernis, the head guy.

The Ukrainian dancer, Oksana Pavlova, practicing her dance (she was soooo sweet!)

Messiah Co. practicing Jerusalem of Gold

On the way to the Auditorio

The Auditorio Nacional. It was HUMONGOUS. I just sat there in shock until ... well ... I had to go do something. :P It didn't seem as big as I had thought though....it was kind of cozy.

Then, it's....FESTIVAL TIME!!!! This is me and my new friend Esly who was doing the processional for Zealous over Zion with me.

This is Oksana dancing one of her dance. She has so much energy, it's insane. The song seems to go on forever. :) And this is during the dress rehearsal, not the actual show(s). If it were during the actual festival I'd  be on stage left, helping the other dancers with a quick change.

Me getting glittered. Yes, glittered. We had to put on a lot of makeup, much more than I'm used to. ;)

Mom and I taking (just for fun) some of those annoying Facebook pictures people take. Or, those annoying selfie pictures, to put it in Blimeycow words. ;P

Don't ask.

Me, after the whole .... everything. :)

Me and my new friend Keila! She's a missionary kid in Mexico City. :)

 I could've sworn I took more pictures.....they must've wandered off. Huh.

Well, anyway, that's it. Mexico in two blog posts. :)

On a random sidenote, (and I'm going to need all CAPs for this.....get it ... Cap ... Captain America ... ha ha...)

I SAW THE AVENGERS!!!!! AT LAST!!!!! IT WAS THE MOST AWESOME THING I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE AND I WANT TO WATCH IT OVER AND OVER AND OVER!!!!! I'VE ALREADY SEEN IT LIKE FOUR TIMES AND I TOTALLY WANT IT FOR CHRISTMAS!!!!! WITH A BUNCH OF BONUS FEATURES!!!!!! AND BLOOPERS!!!!!

whew.

I'M STILL RECOVERING FROM ITS AWESOMENESS!!!!!!

Okay. I'm done.

Hey, have you guys seen Gravity Falls? It's this new TV show on Disney Channel about these two kids - Mabel and Dipper - who are spending the summer with their Great Grandpa Stan in Gravity Falls, Oregon. Apparently the place is magical with mystical creatures. I've only seen one episode, but it seems pretty awesome.
